Examination and treatment of international patients (language and level of care)

  1. We have medical interpreters at our hospital.
    We provide medical interpreting in 19 different languages with a tablet device. Medical interpreters provide on-site interpreting in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Nepalese, and Burmese for doctor’s consultations and explanations during the daytime on weekdays. Please understand that they are sometimes not available.

  2. Medical interpreting is provided for free
    Patients do not need to pay any fees for using our interpreters. Our medical interpreters interpret medical consultations and explanations, but do notaccompany the patient their entire time in thehospital. If you would like constant language support, please consider bringing your own interpreter.

  3. Medical coordinators elevate the quality of care for international patients
    Our medical coordinators (nurses) from the ICC share information with medical interpreters in order to meet patient needs and elevate the quality of care. We not only provide optimal medical care, but we also value the quality of patient care.

Detailed information on medical treatment for international patients

Required reference documents

  1. A medical report: the original document accompanied by an English or Japanese translation.
  2. Medical examination data (other than imaging tests): the original data accompanied by an English or Japanese translation.
  3. Imaging examination data (if any): please prepare the data in DICOM format.

Application fee for international patients

JPY 55,000 per case
Upon confirming payment of the application fee, we will review your documents and let you know whether you can receive medical treatment at our hospital.

Please note

  1. We will first determine whether you can receive medical consultation/treatment at our hospital. We may decide not to accept you upon reviewing your documents. 
  2. The purpose of the application process is to determine whether you can receive medical consultation/treatment at our hospital based on the medical information we have received from you.
  3. Even in cases where you cannot receive medical consultation/treatment at our hospital, we cannot take responsibility for your current or future condition. 
  4. If you do not make an appointment within 3 months of the application date, we will terminate the application process. If you would like to make a new application, you will be required to submit your latest medical report, medical examination data, and imaging examination data, as your health condition is likely to change in 3 months. We will charge an additional JPY 55,000 for your second application.

  2. In cases where we can accept you under certain conditions, we will explain the conditions.

Required preparations before receiving medical treatment at NCGM

  1. In cases where you are accepted as a patient and wish to receive medical treatment at NCGM, you will need to make the necessary preparations to obtain a medical visa through a registered guarantor.
  2. We will estimate your medical costs based on our planned examinations, treatments, and their duration. Please pay the estimated amount in advance.
  3. Medical fees for international patients are 300% of the medical fees set under the Japanese medical insurance system.
  4. We will inform you of the rules and regulations regarding outpatient and inpatient treatment at Center Hospital for the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, and we ask that you follow them.

About guarantors

Our hospital does not require guarantors for international patients. Please contact the International Health Care Center either individually or through a guarantor. (E-mail: support@hosp.ncgm.go.jp)
However, if you're an individual who requires assistance travelling to and from Japan, staying in Japan, or providing accurate medical information, please consider using one of the following guarantors.
