Online second opinion for international patients

1. 【Providing information】
   Send the patient’s medical information (in Japanese or English) to the email address above.
   If the medical information provided by you or your family is not sufficient, we may ask you or your family to send us your medical information through an intermediary.

2. 【Notice of acceptance】
   The International Health Care Center will notify you whether we can accept you into our care.

3. 【Application】
   If we are able to accept you, apply officially by filling out the Application Form for Online Second Opinion, and the Application Form for Online Second Opinion Participants.

4. 【Medical interpreting】
   Medical interpreting will be provided by our hospital.

5. 【Consultation fee】
   JPY 110,000 (up to 1 hour)
   Once we receive the fee, we will work with you to arrange a date and time for the consultation.

Past online second opinion cases

Online second opinion for international patients

Our online second opinion service allows patients living abroad and unable to come to Japan to obtain a second opinion. The purpose is for our hospital to offer its opinion regarding diagnosis or treatment plans received from other medical institutions, based on information from the patient’s primary doctor. It does not include tests, treatment, or prescriptions.

As a general rule we discuss the case with the patient themselves. However, consultation with family members is also possible.
In cases where the patient is not present during the consultation, the patient will need to sign a consent form.
In addition, if the patient is a minor or unable to consent because they are unconscious, suffering from severe dementia, etc., documents proving the relationship between the patient and family member are required.
The doctor conducting the second opinion is designated by a department head, chief physician, or a doctor of a similar level.
Representatives (third parties such as agents) are not allowed to participate without the patient’s consent.
A medical interpreter will be provided by our hospital.
Audio or video recording the online second opinion for international patients is prohibited.
A written report of the online second opinion for international patients will not be provided.

We are unable to provide consultation for the following topics:

• Issues such as medical malpractice or lawsuits
• Discussion of medical fees or medical insurance benefits
• Dissatisfaction with your doctor
• Expecting to transfer care to a different hospital (or a different doctor)
• Consultation regarding a deceased patient
• Consultation without the necessary documents (medical report, test results, imaging data, etc.)
• Topics outside our areas of expertise
• When there are network problems such as an unreliable internet connection, as may be experienced in some countries or regions

Consultation length and fee

Consultation length: up to 60 minutes

Consultation fee, including interpreter: JPY 110,000

Please understand that the fee is non-refundable.

About guarantors

Our hospital does not require guarantors for international patients. Please contact the International Health Care Center either individually or through a guarantor. (Email: support@hosp.ncgm.go.jp)
However, if you're an individual who requires assistance travelling to and from Japan, staying in Japan, or providing accurate medical information, please consider using one of the following guarantors.
