Rheumatology

Characteristics of Department

⁃ NCGM is one of the leading core hospitals in Tokyo that handles rheumatic and collagen diseases. The Department of Rheumatology has 11 staff members (3 of whom are undergoing training at external institutions) including 3 specialists.
⁃ With a history of over 30 years, our department has been collaborating with other departments both inside and outside our hospital based on our experience and the latest findings.
⁃ We treat all collagen diseases including rheumatoid arthritis and related disorders.
⁃ We also conduct research using patient samples at our research institute and numerous drug clinical trials to understand the cause of collagen diseases and develop treatments.
⁃ We treat all types of patients including those with unexplained fever and/or inflammation, those with conditions suspected not to be limited to a single organ, those who have been given a diagnosis but have difficult-to-treat conditions, and those who are having trouble with treatment due to various comorbidities or complications.

Available Treatments

⁃ We treat patients with rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, inflammatory muscle diseases (polymyositis, dermatomyositis), scleroderma, vasculitis syndrome (Takayasu arteritis, microscopic polyangiitis, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, etc.) .
⁃ We perform serum exchange therapy in collaboration with the Department of Nephrology.
⁃ As a general rule, we provide treatments that are approved by Japanese health insurance. However, if you would like to receive treatment outside such insurance coverage at your own expense, please consult us in advance.

Radiation Oncology

Characteristics of Department

We provide advanced radiation therapy such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy for various types of cancer. We also provide pinpoint radiation therapy for lung cancer, liver cancer, and other cancers that move with respiration using appropriate respiratory control methods.

Available Treatments

⁃ We treat all types of cancer including lung cancer, prostate cancer, liver cancer, brain tumors, and breast cancer.
⁃ We collaborate with other departments when chemotherapy and/or surgery is required.

Esophageal and Stomach Surgery

Characteristics of Department

⁃ We treat patients with esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal hiatal hernia, benign esophageal tumors, benign gastric tumors, abdominal emergencies (ileus, gastrointestinal perforation, hernia, etc.), or malnutrition.
⁃ We are well-versed in surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, nutritional therapy, and palliative care.
⁃ We perform robotic-assisted surgery (gastric and esophageal), thoracoscopic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, laparotomy, and thoracotomy.
⁃ We provide multidisciplinary treatment for malignant upper gastrointestinal tumors.
⁃ We are able to respond to high-risk cases such as elderly patients, patients with systemic complications, infectious diseases, or socially disadvantaged patients.
⁃ CV port placement is performed at all of our surgical departments.
⁃ We emphasize nutritional management (CV port, tube feeding, gastric fistula, intestinal fistula, etc.)

Cardiology

Characteristics of Department

⁃ Accurate and advanced cardiological consultation based on the results of blood tests, physiological tests (ECG, PWV, cardiac ultrasound, Holter ECG, etc.), radiological tests (coronary CT, cardiovascular MRI, radionuclide scan), cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiological tests.
⁃ Close collaboration with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.

Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery

Characteristics of Department

We proactively perform hepatectomies for patients with highly advanced liver cancer (both primary and metastatic). Open surgery is used to remove biliary tract and pancreatic tumors safely and securely, but for tumors of the body and tail of the pancreas, we use laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery as well.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Characteristics of Department

Our department perform highly difficult reconstructive surgeries (finger reconstruction, limb reconstruction, genital reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction, etc.) and surgical treatment of lymphedema using microsurgery and supermicrosurgery.

Neurology

Characteristics of Department

We handle a wide range of neurological diseases from neurological emergencies such as stroke and convulsive seizures, to chronic disease such as Parkinson's disease.
As an acute care hospital we are unable to accommodate long-term hospitalization.

Genomic Medicine

Characteristics of Department

⁃ We support diagnosis in cooperation with disease specialists by providing genetic tests and suggesting policies for prevention and treatment tailored to each patient.
⁃ We provide consultations for prenatal diagnoses in cooperation with the obstetrics department.

Available Treatments

⁃ Genetic testing and counseling (consult with the International Health Care Center for available languages): hereditary tumor tests for cancer patients (BRCA genes, Lynch syndrome genes), tests for hypercholesterolemia patients, tests for children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), etc.
⁃ Treatment for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) (upon consultation with our pediatric department to see if treatment at our hospital is possible)

Respiratory Medicine

Characteristics of Department

⁃ We have specialists in all areas of pulmonology who are able to handle any condition.
⁃ Many of our doctors have experience working overseas including developing countries, and can provide care tailored to the characteristics of each region.
⁃ English and Vietnamese speaking doctors are available.

Anesthesiology

Characteristics of Department

We manage anesthesia in the operating rooms. Our in-hospital interpreter will be available and be present when we explain anesthesia, induce general anesthesia for surgery, and when the anesthesia wears off.

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Characteristics of Department

1) We are proficient in minimally invasive surgeries such as robotic-assisted and laparoscopic surgeries. We have one of the highest numbers of endoscopic surgery cases in Tokyo.
2) We offer multidisciplinary care for malignant gynecological tumors and perform surgeries for patients with underlying conditions.
3) Our hospital is certified to provide assisted reproductive medicine including in vitro fertilization. We are well versed in reproductive medicine for patients who need surgery for uterine myoma or endometriosis.

Ophthalmology

Characteristics of Department

We specialize in surgical treatment of difficult cases, but as a general rule we do not accept patients from other countries. We accept them on a negotiation basis only.

Spine Surgery

Characteristics of Department

Our certified spine/spinal cord specialists and endoscopic spine surgeons are in charge of consultation and surgeries. We offer minimally invasive treatment such as endoscopic surgery as well as highly difficult and demanding surgeries such as those for spinal deformities and tumors. We strive to perform surgeries that preserve as much spinal range of motion as possible.

Joint Surgery

⁃ Our main focus is artificial joint surgery and arthroscopic knee surgery.
⁃ We endeavor to select the best-fitted implant and surgical technique for each individual patient.

Orthopedics

Characteristics of Department

We treat a wide range of cases including trauma, musculoskeletal disorders, osteoporosis.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Characteristics of Department

Our role is to restore lost stomatognathic function (function of the jaw, teeth and surrounding area) both functionally and aesthetically. We perform a wide range of treatments including inpatient care in close cooperation with other departments in the hospital. We proactively promote cooperation between the departments in our hospital and other hospitals and clinics.

⁃ Hemangioma (vascular malformation): combined laser irradiation therapy for hemangioma that develops in membranes around the stomatognathic area (lips, tongue, or buccal mucosa, etc.)
⁃ Dental implant related surgery
We perform implantation of artificial tooth roots including patients with systemic complications or difficult cases using alveolar bone augmentation and other procedures.

Note

Few facilities can perform hemangioma laser therapy on oromandibular membranes and our hospital has one of the highest number of cases in Japan. Patients across Japan visit us for that reason.

Disease Control and Prevention Center(DCC)

Characteristics of Department

We offer inpatient and outpatient treatment of general infectious diseases as well as travel-related diseases. We also specialize in dealing with cases of hard to diagnose infectious diseases such as fever of unknown origin.

Gastroenterology (Liver)

Characteristics of Department

Our clinical practice for liver disease is wide-ranging, from differential diagnosis of liver dysfunction to diagnosis and treatment of chronic liver diseases, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. For liver cancer, we provide not only radiofrequency ablation (RFA) but also multidisciplinary care including transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), systemic drug therapy with antineoplastic agents, and stereotactic radiotherapy, depending on the degree of cancer progression.

We handle almost all of urological diseases ranging from malignant tumors such as renal cancer, urothelial carcinoma, and prostate cancer, to benign tumors such as prostatomegaly.

Pediatrics

Characteristics of Department

⁃ Pediatricians lead a staff of diverse pediatric specalists who provide care on our children's ward.
⁃ We offer patients every diagnosis and treatment available in Japan.

⁃ Chemotherapy and hematopoietic cell transplant for hematopoietic tumors

Dermatology

Characteristics of Department

NCGM is one of the few medical facilities certified by the Japanese government to provide platelet-rich plasma skin ulcer treatment in Japan and has done so since its emergence as an advanced medical treatment. Our skin ulcer treatment using negative pressure wound therapy has also achieved outstanding results. In addition, our department is equipped with a Q-switched ruby laser as well as dermoscopes with imaging functions.

Thoracic Surgery

Characteristics of Department

⁃ Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS)/Robotic-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (RATS): We perform surgeries ranging from thoracoscopic or robotic surgery to extended operation not only for cancers but also for congenital lung diseases and infectious lung diseases (pulmonary tuberculosis, nontuberculous mycobacteria infection, pulmonary aspergillosis).
⁃ We perform surgeries on many patients from Vietnam, China and other countries.

Nephrology

Characteristics of Department

Chronic kidney diseases are increasing globally. We strive to curb their progression by providing a diagnosis that is as scientifically correct as possible, team-based medical care, and the latest treatment suitable for each patient's condition.
As for acute renal diseases, we work to identify the cause and perform proactive treatment so as to control their progression and avoid the initiation of maintenance dialysis.

Available Treatments

⁃ We conduct detailed blood and urine tests, thorough imaging tests (ultrasound, CT, MRI, etc.), and, if necessary, a kidney biopsy.
⁃ Depending on the primary disease, steroids, immunosuppressants, and other medications are also used.
⁃ To control the progression of renal disease, we provide dietary and lifestyle guidance for conditions such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, and hyperuricemia.
⁃ In addition, we treat conditions that may develop along with the progression of kidney disease, such as electrolyte imbalance, renal anemia, mineral and bone disorder, and acid-base imbalance. We offer both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

Anesthesiology/Pain Clinic

Characteristics of Department

Our goal is to alleviate various types of pain regardless of the cause.

Available Treatments

⁃ We have a particularly high number of patients with postherpetic neuralgia, low back and leg pain, postoperative pain, etc.
⁃ We treat patients with oral medication, nerve block therapy, etc.

Gastroenterology (GI Tract)

Characteristics of Department

We treat various diseases that develop in the gastrointestinal tract (the passageway for food), including the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine, and rectum.
During endoscopic examinations, sedation and/or analgesia is used to reduce pain.
We perform diagnostic endoscopy and specialized treatment for early gastrointestinal cancer, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), and esophageal function tests for functional esophageal disorders (esophageal motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease).

Neurosurgery

Characteristics of Department

We provide safe and minimally invasive treatment for neurosurgical diseases such as cerebrovascular diseases and brain tumor using the latest equipment.
In particular, we have extensive experience in catheter-based endovascular treatment of carotid artery stenosis and cerebral aneurysms.

We treat diseases such as cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumor, or carotid artery diseases with endovascular therapy, neuroendoscopy, exoscopy, and navigation system.

General Internal Medicine

Characteristics of Department

⁃ We strive to resolve sufferings of patients with medically unexplained symptoms.
⁃ We treat patients with complex problems that may have been caused by multiple factors.
