For International Patients and Agents who are planning to visit NCGM for medical care
In order to offer international patients smooth service at our hospital, we would like to ask you to follow the procedure as below.
- If a patient is an overseas resident and does not have Japanese national health insurance, please contact our Medical Coordinator in the International Health Care Center (ICC) at NCGM by e-mail in any case, regardless of the initial consultation or return to clinic.
support@hosp.ncgm.go.jp - If the patient wishes to visit Japan for the purpose of medical care in NCGM for the first time, please be sure to take the following steps.
- Send "Application Form of Preliminary Consultation and Consent Form for Payment of Medical Expenses"
- Send medical information report (free format) and examination data, by e-mail to our Medical Coordinator in the ICC.
- Pay 100,000 Yen (+ tax) in advance for the fee of the preliminary consultation.
After we confirm that all steps are completed, our doctor will make a decision whether to accept the patient at NCGM and inform the patient/agent by e-mail from our Medical Coordinator in the ICC. It may take up to approximately two weeks for us to respond.
If the patient/agent is not able to get (ii) all the medical information ready in time, please contact our Medical Coordinator in the ICC in advance.
- Even if the patient/agent has contact information of a doctor at NCGM, please refrain from making a personal contact directly. The first contact should be made to our Medical Coordinator in the ICC in any case.
Doctors from outside of Japan are also required to make the first contact through our ICC in order to get in touch with a doctor at NCGM. - Once the patient gets accepted to receive medical care such as consultation, examination and treatment at our hospital, we will provide an estimate of basic fee calculated on your receiving medical care. Please make your payment in prior to your receiving medical care.
The fee of medical care is based on the National Health Insurance (NHI) points under the Japanese healthcare system. Our hospital applies 30 Yen for one NHI point for international patients in the case of medical visit in Japan. - As for the outpatient/inpatient care and admission process in our hospital, please follow the regulation of our hospital.
We cannot accept patient/agent unless the procedure mentioned above be taken.
Access
NCGM is located in Toyama, Shinjuku-ku near Waseda University, and Tokyo Women's Medical University. It takes 10 minutes by Taxi from the center of Shinjuku Station.
The nearest subway station is "Wakamatsu-Kawada" of the Oedo Line (pink line).
Language Services
Interpreters are available to assist communication between health care providers and patients whose primary language is not Japanese.

Payment
Patients are required to pay upfront and claim for reimbursement.
Please check what documents are necessary to submit claims prior to your visit to the hospital. We accept Japanese cash (Yen) and most major credit cards : VISA, Master, JCB, American Express, Diners, NICOS, DC, UFJ, MUFG
*Credit Card Registry : We ask all patients who do not have Japanese health insurance card, to complete credit card registry prior to medical treatment.
*Inpatient : Upon admission all (Japanese/International) patients are required to pay a deposit.
Full payment is required before discharge.
First Visit Payment
- Consultation fee for all first visit: 8,000 yen (without tax)* (patient without a referral letter from other hospital/clinic )
*Required based on the system of the Japanese Health and Welfare Ministry Law - Regular Consultation Fee
- Laboratory Test / Imaging / Medication, and other specific procedures
- Documentation Fee
Patients without Japanese Health Insurance Qualification
At Center Hospital of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, from January 4, 2019, all care for foreign nationals who do not have Japanese health insurance qualification will be charged as follows:
- Patients without Japanese health insurance qualification who are currently in Japan and visit Japan for the purpose of receiving medical care will be charged at a rate of 30 yen per 1 medical remuneration point because of extra administrative work, etc.
- Patients without Japanese health insurance qualification who are currently in Japan and receive medical care for the reason other than above (i), they will be charged at a rate of 20 yen per 1 medical remuneration point.
Hospital Stay / Rooms
Patients will be provided with a private room on demand.
Most of them include a bathroom, small refrigerator, and lockable wardrobe.
Rooms are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If you wish to change rooms, please notify your ward nurse and a request will be made.
VIP Rooms, located on the 16th floor, are provided upon request.

Insurance Assistance
NCGM will help you to process your claim.
Insurance documents will be prepared by NCGM ("Iji-ka").
We accept Cash (Japanese Yen) and Credit cards for payment.
You will be responsible to pay for your treatment and direct reimbursement with your insurance.
Medical Visa
If you plan to travel on a medical visa, you are required to apply in advance.
